Community Update February 22nd, 2018: Brick Growth Form, Forum Coming Soon

Shane Boland

Happy Friday everyone! It’s time for another weekly update. You can watch the update on YouTube or read it below. [Watch on YouTube: We Light a Bear on Fire | Community Update - Feb 22nd, 2018]( *This week at* • Ever wondered _“How to grow a mycelium brick”_? Well we’ve got good news for you! The new [Brick Growth Form]( is now available on The Shop! Now you can grow mycelium bricks at home. These mycelium bricks are incredible because, while still wet & alive, they can be grown together. Just stack one brick on top of the other, and they‘ll grow right into each other. You don’t need any mortar or adhesive. • We’ve continued our research on growing hard surfaces into the material. This week we started experimenting with growing into wood and hemp mats (similar to felt). In future weeks we are considering trying to grow into materials such as carbon fiber, aluminum, glass, ceramics, etc. • If you’re a teacher, check out our new [Educa tors page](! This page shows you some of the curriculum available for teachers who want to use our mycelium material in the classroom. It also has answers to some of the frequently asked questions we get from teachers. If there is a question you have that you don’t see answered on the Educators page, email us at [](, and we’ll help you out! *Next week in* • Customers often ask us how to grow large panels with the material. For example “How can I make mycelium insulation panels for my tiny house?”. This week, we put together a growth form for a large panel using common household objects (a.k.a. duct tape). Next week, we will be filling this large growth form with [Hemp mycelium material]( and watching it grow. Once we finish growing this large panel, we’ll release our results so you can try growing your own panels at home. • A big part of this site is the “Community”. But if you haven’t noticed...we don’t have much of a Community. It’s mostly just Grant and I talking at you. We really want to foster an engaged community of like-minded people. One big family! :D So next week, we will be releasing a new section of the site. It will be some kind of discussion/forum/knowledge base hybrid. It will be a place for you to share your projects, share your tips & tricks, ask questions, answer other’s questions, and get feedback on your projects. It’s been a busy week. Lots of big updates coming in the next few weeks! If you ever have feedback, comments, or questions for us, please use our [Contact page]( and reach out! Looking forward to hearing from you :) Okay that’s all for this week folks! - Shane at
